Floatation therapy

Literally floating in a spacious tank of warm water

There is over half a ton of Epsom Salt in each pod, which means the buoyancy is so high you float with absolutely no effort at all.

You are able to let go of all tension in your body as you are held completely by the water. You can even sleep, no sinking! The water and air in the pod are set at body temperature, which means you can barely feel it.

In the truest sense of Floatation Therapy, the light would be off and lid down. This creates a space where external stimulation is reduced to the lowest possible level, often referred to as Sensory Deprivation or Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (R.E.S.T).

However, you are in complete control of the light and the lid and can leave it partially open if this makes you feel more comfortable.

Why people float

Float for your mind, your body and your soul

M

Float for your mind

Floating helps to focus your mind inwards where you can find a place of calm relaxation with nothing external to process. It supports clear thinking, enhanced creativity and can lead to insightful experiences.

Last but not least, nearly every single person who has floated with us has had an amazing nights sleep afterwards!

B

Float for your body

Epsom salt is actually Magnesium Sulfate. By supporting your body entirely with Epsom salt water, your muscles and bones can completely relax.

When we float it removes pressure from the spinal-cord and muscular-skeletal systems. This allows tension, aches and pains to dissolve.

S

Float for your soul

‘Soul’ can mean lots of different things to different people, and what ever it means to you is just right. There is nothing to see, smell, taste, touch or ‘do’ when you’re in the tank.

Perhaps you want to meditate on the meaning of life, your place in the world or simply let yourself ‘be’.

We have been careful to keep information accurate and relevant. Of course we do know a lot about floating, but we are not medical professionals. So, when deciding whether floating is right for you, our advice would be use your instincts. If you’ve got something going on with your health which makes you unsure, always check in with your health care provider.

The pods

Two float rooms, two i-sopods

The i-sopod is the ultimate float tank. This state of the art design contains over 500kg of Epsom salts and 1000l of water. The water goes through 3.75 cycles of a highly efficient UV filtration process between each float, ensuring a completely sanitary environment every single time.

You are fully supported in 10 inches of highly concentrated Epsom Salt water. Due to the salt content, similarly to being in the Dead Sea, you naturally float on the surface with no effort at all. Come with someone and you can both float at the same time in separate rooms.

Infrared sauna

Deep, gentle heat without the hot air

We have a top notch Clearlight Full Spectrum Infrared Sauna. It’s beautifully made from Eco-certified Canadian Cedar Wood. There are comfortable back rests to relax into whilst radiant heat surrounds you and penetrates deeply into your joints, muscles, and tissues.

Unlike a traditional sauna which uses steam to heat the air in the sauna, an infrared sauna uses infrared light waves to penetrate the body and heat it in the same way light from the sun does but without the harmful UV rays. As it gently heats the body, it makes you sweat and has all the same benefits of a traditional sauna but feels much more comfortable because the air around you isn’t hot.

Sauna sessions are 60 mins long, with time to shower after. This is usually between 15-40 mins in the sauna with the infrared on, and the remainder of the time to sit and sweat. That’s where the magic happens. We recommend you start with 15 mins of heat and work your way up over several sessions.

There is Medical Grade Chromotherapy in the sauna, light therapy will be set up by us on arrival if you would like it. The sauna is big enough for two, light and airy.

We suggest 3 floating sessions within a few weeks of each other to start with. The first and second floats you are usually getting used to your surroundings, by the third it feels familiar and you can really relax and feel the benefits.

Floatation sessions last an hour. An hour and a half is given for each session to allow time for showering pre and post float. Sessions take place in your own pod, in your own room, with your own shower.

  1. 1

    Before your float

    • Try to avoid stimulants like caffeine before your float, this will help you to relax.
    • Do not shave or wax on the day of your float, this could cause skin irritation.
    • Have a small snack or wait a few hours if you’ve had a big meal. You don’t want to be distracted by being too full or hungry!
    • Being on time for your appointment is perfect, no need to be early.
  2. 2

    During your float

    • We ask people to shower first and then enter the pod, usually in nothing but your own skin (although swim wear can be worn if preferred).
    • You will hear music for the first 10 minutes of your float. The rest of your float session is spent in blissful silence, until the 5 minutes of music at the end.
    • We recommend you turn the lights off to maximise the experience. However, there is a light which is completely within your control from the inside of the pod.
    • There are ear plugs and petroleum jelly (to cover any cuts) available.
  3. 3

    After your float

    • Shower, then relax upstairs with tea and sorbet.
    • The facilities are thoroughly cleaned between each float, and the water in the pod goes through a state of the art UV filtration system.

We don’t wear shoes inside to keep everything clean and comfy. Outdoor footwear must be removed on arrival: you can go bare foot or bring some indoor shoes or flip flops to wear.

“A reset from the stresses of modern living”

from 79 Google reviews

This was my first experience of using a flotation tank, and it was amazing! I felt a bit anxious about being enclosed in the dark but Mel explained I'd have complete control and could leave the lid open and the light on if i wanted to. I actually went the whole hog and enclosed myself in the dark. It's weird at first... but once you give in to just peacefully floating, it's fabulous. The chatter in my mind calmed right down and I just completely relaxed - which is uheard of for me! If you need a reset from the stresses of modern living... go to Mel at Soul Spa and have yourself a float! ❤️

Received a floating gift card as a present. I wasn't too sure what to expect, but I absolutely loved it. The staff here are incredibly welcoming and made me feel relaxed before even stepping foot in the pod. The float itself was lovely and really did allow me to relax. Following the float, they provide you with complementary tea and sorbet in a quiet relaxation room which made for a lovely conclusion to the experience. Highly recommend this place.

I got a floating gift card for my birthday. I didn't know what to expect and I was a bit afraid because I've got claustrophobia but it was an amazing experience to just float there for an hour. The owner is very friendly and helpful too. She explained and showed how does it work at the beginning. She made a nice tea and a pot of sorbet at the end. …

… The atmosphere is very welcoming and the place is run really well. Very clean and a lovely setup in the rooms, with a shower inside and plenty of space. They provide you with ear plugs to wear in the tank on your first float (keep these for future floats) and towels are in the room ready. Herbal tea and a sorbet are provided after your season which you can enjoy in a chill out room. The whole experience feels very zen and leaves me in a refreshed dream like state.

Questions & answers

Who can float, and what if…

We are pretty awesome at talking about all things float related, but we are not doctors and cannot provide any medical advice. We would be happy for you to pop in and talk it through with us.

Still got questions? 01424 602963

Who can float?

You must be 16 or over. If you are undergoing any medical treatment or have a health condition you may need to check with your health care provider before floating to ensure it is safe for you.

You must not have any fresh tattoos (4-6 weeks is an optimum time to wait before floating, with an absolute minimum of 2 weeks). You should not float with a current ear infection. Dyed hair must have been washed a few times with the water running clear before you float.

Due to health and safety, you are advised not to float if you have Epilepsy, Schizophrenia or a current ear infection.

Who can use the infrared sauna?

You must be 16 or over. If you are undergoing any medical treatment or have a health condition you must check with your health care provider before using the infrared sauna to ensure it is safe for you.

You must not use the sauna if you have a recent joint injury (within 48 hours) or current swelling from an injury, a fever or any insensitivity to heat.

Saunas are not safe to use while pregnant as it raises your core body temperature.

I'm pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I float?

Great! Floating has given much needed physical relief to many pregnant women over the years and provides a gorgeous intimate space to connect with your growing baby. As always, we would ask that you check with your health care provider before you float in case there is any reason in your individual circumstances why you should not.

Floating is totally okay when you are breastfeeding too.

I'm claustrophobic. Is floating for me?

It is okay, we understand. It can be a scary prospect to lie in an enclosed space. We are happy to work with you on making sure you feel safe and relaxed, whatever that may look like (and have successfully done this with many people).

The floatation pod is bigger than you think and in a spacious room. You feel more like you're floating in space than in an enclosed space. We encourage anyone who is concerned to come in and have a look. People in the past have started with the lid open and worked their way to closed in their own time.

How big is the pod? Will I fit?

You will, we promise. It's the size of a small car/double bed/the spaceship in my imagination… you can stretch out, star fish, sit up, wiggle around… it's honestly bigger than you think.

Is it clean and sanitary?

After every single float the entirety of the water goes through not just one, but 3.75 cycles of a state of the art filtration system. That includes a 1-micron filter (100 times smaller than a human hair), UV sterilisation and automatic doses of disinfectant. It's super-duper clean. In addition, everyone showers before they get in.

Can we float together?

Nope, this is your show! You can both float at the same time in separate rooms (we have two).

What if I fall asleep?

Great news! If you are so relaxed you nod off for a bit (or an hour) that is completely fine, you will be held by the water entirely. In the floatation tank you will get 5 minutes of music at the end to gently awaken you.

Is it dark in there?

That's up to you. You are in control of the light using a button inside the Pod. You can have the blue light on, the multi coloured changing light on, or off. For a true experience of R.E.S.T, lights off is a must.

I have a physical disability. Can I visit?

You are welcome to float with us if you can do so safely. Our float rooms are in the basement, accessed by a single staircase, and there is a lip to step over to get in and out of the pods.

We are unable to provide any physical assistance, but we are happy for you to bring someone with you to support with this if needed. They are welcome to stay in the floatation room with you for the duration of the float or wait upstairs, at no extra charge of course.

Can I float during my period?

No worries! To float, just use whatever sanitary products you would when swimming. If you're using the sauna, please be aware that blood flow can be increased from sauna use when menstruating.
